Grinnell Library Displays Painting Of Vintage Wappingers Falls New Year's WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- The Grinnell Library is displaying a painting showing New Year's Day in 1883 in Wappingers Falls.The painting was created by local artist Clinton Wilde Clapp. The view appears to be looking south down today's route 9D from Main Street. Clapp was born in Wappingers Falls in 1831. He had a technical education -- today he’d be an engineer. As a Sunday school teacher, he was noted for “chalk talks,” and when he retired in the 1880s, he took up painting. All of the 10 paintings the library knows about were done in 1883 and 1884. Just three weeks ago, the 52-year-old Brookfield resident decided she wanted to try running, too. Mannion began running on the treadmill at her gym and, encouraged by friends at the Woodbridge Running Group in Brookfield last week, ran 3 miles without stopping.
