Stranded Kayaker Rescued In Bellport Bay
Two Long Island Marine Bureau officers rescued a man after his kayak overturned.
Suffolk County Police Officers Terence McGovern and Jack Jantzen responded aboard Marine Mike to a 911 call from a man whose kayak overturned in Bellport Bay, between buoys 8 and 9, around 12:50 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30.
The officers located the kayaker, Diego Sponza, who was wearing a lifejacket but no wetsuit, and pulled him aboard their boat, police said.
Sponza, age 35, of Shirley, was transported to the Bellport Marina and then to a local hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia.
Couple Charged With Stealing Flowers, Other Items From Graves In Hudson Valley
Two people have been arrested for allegedly stealing plants, pumpkins, and flowers from graves in a Hudson Valley cemetery.
Orange County residents John D. Riach, age 69, and Lisebeth S. Riach, age 63, both of the Town of Newburgh, were arrested Thursday, Oct. 27 for the incidents which occurred in Ulster County in the town of Lloyd, said Lloyd Police Chief James Janso.

Armed, Dangerous Suspect Wanted In Bridgeport Murder Caught, Police Say
A man who was considered armed and dangerous and wanted for a stabbing homicide in Fairfield County has been apprehended by police.
Lawrence Blue, age 45, of Bridgeport, was caught hours after the word went out on Saturday, Oct. 29, that he was wanted for the early morning stabbing death of 23-year-old Justice Hunter of Bridgeport, said Capt. Kevin Gilleran of the Bridgeport Police.
The homicide was discovered around 4:15 a.m. Saturday, when Bridgeport officers responded to the 800 block of Atlantic Street on the report of a party stabbed at that location, Gilleran said.
