Blaze Destroys Car On Saw Mill River Parkway In Hawthorne A car became completely engulfed in flames on a busy parkway in Northern Westchester.  The incident happened on Sunday, March 3 at around 10:15 a.m., when a car fire began on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway in Hawthorne, according to the Hawthorne Fire Department. Arriving crews found the car overtaken by flames but were quickly able to extinguish them. A tow truck then eventually removed the charred wreckage.  The response to the fire took around an hour. Clothing Under $110 Now Exempt From Sales Tax In This Hudson Valley County: Here's How Long Those who purchase any clothing or footwear cheaper than $110 in one Hudson Valley county will not have to pay sales tax thanks to a new piece of legislation.  Effective on Friday, March 1, clothing and footwear under $110 purchased in Putnam County will be exempt from sales tax for two years, officials announced.  The exemption comes thanks to a piece of legislation signed into law by Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne in 2023. Beloved Firefighter, Instructor From Hudson Valley Dies A Hudson Valley fire department has announced the loss of one of its active members.  The death of Robert McDonald, a member of the Kent Fire Department in Putnam County, was announced by the department on Saturday, March 2.  McDonald was a past lieutenant with the department and was also a New York State fire instructor.
