Peekskill High School Debates Red Devil Mascot PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill High School's Debate Club and Student Council recently held a debate about the school's Red Devil mascot. The panel addressed issues such as the separation of church and state before the students and members of the community. According to a statement by the Peekskill Board of Education, there has not been any proposal or discussion regarding the replacement or removal of the mascot. The debate was entirely a scholarly exercise.

Greeley, Fox Lane Athletes Qualify For Olympic Weightlifting Nationals CHAPPAQUA, NY -- Two local athletes recently qualified for the Youth Nationals in Olympic Weightlifting. Sixteen-year-old Ryan Kozersky of Fox Lane High School, who began Olympic Weightlifting 10 months prior, qualified with an 81 kilogram snatch and a 101- kilogram clean and jerk. Mack Lauder of Horace Greeley High School qualified with a 60-kilogram snatch and a 92-kilogram clean and jerk, and started Olympic Weightlifting eight months ago. The students in Holloman's class presented their research in February on the lives of famous African-Americans throughout history. New York Tops Nation In Heroin Abuse, Trafficking, State Panel Told ALBANY, N.Y. -- The number one trafficking hub for heroin in the United States is New York State, according to testimony by Bridgett Brennan of the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York. Heroin packets can be purchased as for as little as six to ten dollars, Brennan told the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction.
