Join, Watch Dragon Boat Race, Enjoy Asian Festival In Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Mark your calendar for the third annual Dutchess Dragon Boat Race & Festival, Saturday, July 23 on the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie.Join or watch the spectacle the colorful race, a benefit for two organizations, Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation and Arts Mid-Hudson. The associated Asian Cultural Festival offers food, music, dancing and kids' games.
Men and women, teenagers, beginners, and spectators of all ages can enjoy a day of friendly competition and get some easy exercise with friends.

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Happy birthday to Peekskill's Abe Ferrara.
The actor, who moved to Peekskill as a teenager, turns 65 today. A film screenwriter, director and occasionally an actor, Ferrara was born July 19, 1951, in the Bronx and is of Italian and Irish descent.
He is best-known as an independent filmmaker of such movies as "The Driller Killer," "Ms. 45," "King of New York," "Bad Lieutenant" and "The Funeral.

Joseph Paul Torre was born July 18, 1940, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the youngest of five children. His father was a New York City police officer.
