Byram Hills Senior Wins First-Place Award In MIT Inspire Competition ARMONK, N.Y. -- Byram Hills senior Danielle Adiletta has won first place in the Woman and Gender Studies category of the MIT Inspire competition. Adiletta entered her authentic science research project, “Decisions About Infant Feeding: A Comparative Study of Women of Higher and Lower Education Levels.” The Massachusetts Institute of Technology's INSPIRE group, which runs the national competition with support from the institute's School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, also gave Adiletta a $2,000 award. Bronxville's St. Joseph Kindergartners Perform In Rock And Count Show BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The St. Joseph School kindergartners, along with their fourth-grade Book Buddies, performed their first ever Rock and Count Show on April 29. Dressed as Bobby Soxers and Greasers, the children performed songs about counting, shapes and addition to the tunes of some very popular rock and roll songs. The audience was filled with friends and family who cheered and sang along to the numbers. The show was written and directed by the kindergarden teachers Annette Casarella and Donna Balardi. Piano and guitar accompaniment were provided by Joseph Casarella.

Larchmont Cook Posts Video About Her Love Of Guacamole LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Felicia Levinson, a cook from Larchmont, created a short Hooplaha original video, which shares her favorite guacamole recipe and the back story as to why she loves it so much. The guacamole recipe episode, released in time for Cinco de Mayo, is a new addition of "Unwriten Recipes," her Hooplaha series. Levinson is a mother, thespian and a cook who creates food for comfort. United Water Begins Hydrant Flushing In New Rochelle NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- United Water New Rochelle crews will begin flushing fire hydrants and blow offs in the City of New Rochelle between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., staring May 5. A temporary slight discoloration of the water and a decrease in water pressure may be noted as a result of opening the hydrants. New Rochelle Public Library Updates Community On Reconstruction NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Public Library reflected recently on the "Winter of the Flood" and the reconstruction updates the library had to face. The flood, which was the result of a burst pipe on the coldest night of the year, necessitated new floors in the meeting room and the theater’s stage, the replacement of walls, painting of the meeting room and the theater, and the reupholstering of theater chairs, according to a press release from the library. Snug Program In Mount Vernon Receives International Attention MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Family Services of Westchester's SNUG program welcomed Mohammed Asideh, a representative from Cure Violence International, on April 24 and April 25. Asideh was visiting from the Middle East to observe the program in action. Friends Of Bronxville Library Announce Winners Of Poetry Contest BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The Friends of the Bronxville Public Library held its annual Children and Teens Poetry Contest in the Yeager Room of the library on April 26. More than 90 students submitted poems to the contest and 12 read their works to an audience of board members, parents, teachers, peers and poetry lovers.
