Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Dog-Walking Woman, 40, Struck Crossing Glen Rock Street, Hawthorne Driver, 76, Cited A 40-year-old Glen Rock woman walking her dog was hospitalized after she was struck by an SUV while crossing the street in broad daylight, authorities said. A 76-year-old Hawthorne resident received a summons for failing to yield following the Nov. 14 noontime crash. Glen Rock Homeowner Burned A Glen Rock homeowner burned his hand Monday during a small fire at his home. The Abington Terrace home just off Maple Avenue sustained minor damage in the noontime Nov. 20 second-floor blaze. The homeowner declined ambulance transport and said he'd drive himself to the hospital. Fire officials said original suspicions that a torch being used to burn paint off a baseboard caused the fire were incorrect. They didn't say how it started, however. Fuel Truck Crashes Through Fence, Clips Pole, Nearly Hits Elmwood Park Home A single-axle tanker truck filled with heating oil sideswiped a utility pole, crashed through a chain link fence and finally stopped short of hitting a house near a Garden State Parkway overpass in Elmwood Park on Monday. Phone Scammer From Atlantic City Who Preyed On Recently Widowed Seniors Pleads Out: US Attorney A heartless public housing tenant from Atlantic City admitted that she scammed elderly victims out of more than $100,000 by claiming that they owed money on life insurance policies bought by a spouse who’d just recently died. Bogota Man Killed In Predawn House Fire UPDATE: A senior resident was killed in an intense house fire before dawn Saturday in Bogota, authorities confirmed.
