Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Pedestrian Struck, Critically Injured On Route 46 A 47-year-old woman was in critical condition after she was struck by a car Monday night on Route 46, responders said. The driver of the white Nissan hatchback that hit her remained at the scene of the crash in the westbound lanes at Phillips Avenue in South Hackensack shortly before 10:30 p.m. The victim, believed to be homeless, was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center. Township police, two ALS units from HUMC and a Little Ferry First Aid Corps ambulance crew quickly tended to the victim and got her to the hospital. The driver remained at the scene. Firefighters Battle Vacant Building Blaze On Frequently Struck Paterson Street A Paterson street that's had more than its share of late-night fires in multi-family houses had another last night. NJ Predator Admits Getting Underage Girl To Share Nudes A New Jersey man admitted posing as someone else to get a minor to pose naked online for him. Federal authorities had charged Sunil Vaid, 51, of North Brunswick with posing online as various people, including a man seeking romance, a woman offering career help and a personal trainer to meet underage victims. One Dead, One Hospitalized In Paterson Shooting A man who was shot in the chest died and another shot in the face was hospitalized before dawn Sunday in Paterson. The 32-year-old victim shot in the face was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center after gunfire erupted at the Food Fair on Market Street around 3 a.m. Oct. 22. Officer Hit By Bottle Thrown By Attendee Of Party With Underage Drinkers In Hasbrouck Heights A Hasbrouck Heights police officer was struck by a bottle thrown through the open window of a patrol car while approaching a group of 75 mostly underage attendees of an illegal drinking party at a local home, authorities said.
