Person Assaulted With Rock At Secaucus Movie Theatre: Police A 16-year-old Union City resident was arrested at the Regal Secaucus ShowPlace theatre in Secaucus for assaulting a person on the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 7, authorities said. At 9:26 p.m., officers responded to the movie theatre at 650 Plaza Dr. for a report of a dispute that turned into an assault, Secaucus police said. Police then arrested the 16-year-old for an assault with a rock, charging him with a aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, officers said. The 16-year-old was transported to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center, police said..

Bicyclist, 35, Decapitated By Driver Who Ran Red Light In Elizabeth, Police Say A 35-year-old cyclist was decapitated after he was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light in Elizabeth on the late evening of Sunday, Aug. 11, authorities said. The cyclist was crossing North Avenue and Spring Street when a 20-year-old driver ran a red light and struck him, decapitating him, a spokeswoman for the city said.  The cyclist's identity is being withheld, pending next of kin notification, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing, authorities said. The driver remained on the scene, authorities said.

Irvington Woman Convicted Of Killing Toddler In Her Care After Sharing Her Side Of Story A 44-year-old Irvington woman was convicted of manslaughter on Friday, Aug. 9  in the death of a two-year-old child she was babysitting in 2021, authorities said. Claire Gelin was babysitting the victim from Feb. 15 to Feb. 19 in her Irvington apartment, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. The child sustained serious from physical abuse on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, but Gelin did not call 911 until Friday, Feb. 19, Stephens said. Intoxicated Driver Found With Cocaine In Sussex County, Police Say A Roseland man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and possessing cocaine on Friday, July 19 in Byram Township, authorities said. Officers observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane on Lackawanna Drive and initiated a vehicle stop, Byram Township Police said in a release. The driver, Vincent Radice, appeared to be intoxicated and proceeded to fail several field sobriety tests, police said. Person Shot, Suspect Apprehended: Newark PD A suspect has been apprehended after a man was shot in Newark on the evening of Friday, Aug. 9, authorities said. At 6:32 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of North 9th Street and a found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he is in stable condition, Fragé said. During their investigation, police located an adult male suspect and recovered a weapon in the area, Fragé said.
