On The Rocks: Vessel Becomes Stuck In Long Island Sound Off Rye Coast A vessel found itself between a rock and a hard place after becoming stuck in Long Island Sound off the Westchester coast. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 30, when a vessel became stuck on the Scotch Caps reef off the coast of Rye, according to Rye Police. Luckily, the vessel's operator was uninjured. Fatal Hit-Run: 17-Year-Old Struck By Drunk Driver In Region, Police Say A 67-year-old man faces numerous felony charges after fleeing the scene of a crash in New York that left a teenage boy dead, police said. Sullivan County resident Thomas Piatt, age 67, of Bethel, was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 31 for his role in a crash that left a 17-year-old Cochecton resident dead, according to state police. 35-Year-Old Northern Westchester Man Dies In Crash After Hitting Pole A 35-year-old man from Northern Westchester was killed after his vehicle struck a pole and overturned in the Hudson Valley. The crash happened in Putnam County on Wednesday, Aug. 30 around 4 p.m. when an SUV traveling east on Route 301 in Carmel in the area of Gipsy Trail Road veered off the roadway, hit a pole, and flipped over, according to Carmel Police Lt. Lane Closures To Affect Stretch Of Taconic State Parkway In Yorktown Motorists who regularly travel on the Taconic State Parkway in Northern Westchester are being warned of upcoming lane closures that will slow down traffic. Two lanes of the southbound Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown between Exit 17B (Bear Mountain Parkway) and Exit 14 (Baldwin Road) are scheduled to close on Thursday, Aug. 31, the New York State Department of Transportation announced. Officers Use Tourniquet To Save Life Of Man Struck By Car In Mount Vernon A man's life was saved thanks to the quick action of two officers who tended to his severe injury after he was struck by a vehicle in Westchester. The incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 26 just before 4:30 a.m., when two Mount Vernon Police officers responded to the corner of Union Avenue and East 3rd Street on a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car.
