'Ultimate Ambassador:' Former Jersey Shore City Mayor Dies At 90 Former North Wildwood Mayor Aldo Palombo has died, the city in Cape May County announced. An obituary for Palombo said he died with his wife and family by his side on Saturday, Jan. 27. He was the 15th mayor of North Wildwood, serving the city from 1994 to 2005. The city said Palombo rescued North Wildwood during some difficult times. "Mayor Palombo brought his indomitable optimism and incredible energy to the Office of Mayor," the city said in a news release. First Confirmed Rabies Case Of 2024 Found In Atlantic County Raccoon A raccoon was found with rabies in Atlantic County in the first confirmed case of the year, according to officials. The county's health department said the raccoon tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, Jan. 31 after the animal was found on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue in Egg Harbor Township. Health officials were told about a dog that was brought to a veterinarian for a rabies booster after having contact with a raccoon. The raccoon was sent to the state laboratory for testing. Man Struck, Killed By Minivan While Crossing Jersey Shore Road Police are investigating after a man was killed by a minivan in Monmouth County, authorities said. Ocean Township police were called to a pedestrian crash on West Park Avenue at around 5:49 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Indoor Sports Complex Approved As Latest Addition To Cape May Airport A large indoor sports complex is coming to Cape May County, featuring year-round space for sports like soccer and lacrosse. The commission for the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) unanimously approved a resolution to enter a lease agreement with Aviation Sports Complex LLC. 'Free-Spirited' NJ Dad Killed In Crash, Mom Hospitalized In ICU A family is rallying to support Ocean County children whose father was killed in a crash and mother, his wife, seriously injured. State police said 34-year-old George Francis of Lanoka Harbor died when his SUV drove off the Garden State Parkway south at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25.
