Details Released In Parkway Crash That Killed Monmouth U Student Returning From Work Shift
Daily Voice has obtained details about the crash that killed an 18-year-old Monmouth University student last week. Madison Alfano of Staten Island, NY, lost control of her car and hit the driver's side of another vehicle on the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville around 7:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, New Jersey State Police Trooper Troy McNair said. Alfano's car went into another lane and she was hit by an oncoming pickup near mile marker 125.6, just south of the exit for Route 9 and New Jersey Route 35, McNair said. Monmouth University, family, and loved ones are mourning the death of a young woman from Staten Island killed in a crash. A GoFundMe page said 18-year-old Madison Alfano died in a crash while returning home from work at college. A Wildwood man is accused of physically abusing a child, authorities said. Middle Township police received a report about the abuse accusation on Sunday, Jan. 14, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced. A Wildwood man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13, authorities said. Wildwood police and the special victims unit for the county prosecutor's office opened an investigation on Friday, Jan. 12 into a child sexual assault claim against 27-year-old Jose Lopez-Ortiz, Cape May County prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced. A new law will make thousands of New Jersey students newly eligible for free school lunches and breakfasts. Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill into law on Tuesday, Jan. 16, expanding the eligibility for free meals to more than 60,000 additional families. A nonprofit thrift store in Egg Harbor Township is recovering after it lost all of its merchandise in a fire on Monday, Jan. 15. Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia said a suspicious fire broke out in the charity store on Black Horse Pike. No one was injured in the fire. A Monmouth County community is mourning the loss of a 14-year-old girl after a valiant cancer battle. An obituary said 14-year-old Katelyn Morales of Howell died on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
