Brookfield Policeman Helps Tame Brush Fire At Pocono, Silvermine Roads BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- One of Brookfield's commanding police officers, Maj. James Purcell, was seen helping to put out a brush fire in Brookfield.About 11 a.m. Friday, both the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company and Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department Candlewood Company Inc. were dispatched to the fire in the area of Pocono and Silvermine roads. Both fire companies made quick work of the brush fire, reducing the amount of property damage and doing so without injuries.

Rockland County Legislators Present Award To Man Who Gave To Homeless ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Rockland County Legislators Alden H. Wolfe and Aron B. Wieder present the Board's Distinguished Service Award to Joey Resto.Resto took his top shirt off and put it on a shirtless and shivering man riding the New York City subway on Jan. 8. A video of his selfless act went viral and Resto, of Brooklyn, has since been praised for his actions.

'Great American Song Revival' At New Rochelle Public Library Is Postponed NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- "The Great American Song Revival" with Caroline Doctorow at the New Rochelle Public Library has been postponed.The anticipated snowstorm caused the postponement because of the great distance Doctorow's band is required to travel. A new date has been set for Saturday, March 12. At that time, plans for a New Rochelle tribute to E. L. Doctorow, Caroline's father, will be revealed. Stony Point Police Department Gets Donation Of Ford Escape STONY POINT, N.Y. -- The Stony Point Police Department welcomes the newest member of its Fleet--a Ford Escape.This Ford Escape replaces a 2001 van and will be used by the department's Youth Bureau. Scarsdale, Armonk Men Win National Finals At Golf Classic Competition SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Dr. Stephen Nicholas of Scarsdale and Andrew Verboys of Armonk were on the team that won the National Finals of the National Kidney Foundation’s Golf Classic at Pebble Beach over the weekend. Large Pig Kicks Off Reading Program At Mohansic School YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A pig's visit kicked off the start of a month-long One School, One Book Campaign, when all students, staff and families at Mohansic Elementary School in Yorktown Heights will read the same book.
