Briarcliff Middle School Event Combats Hunger BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Students at Briarcliff Middle School recently raised money to support the Food Bank for Westchester at the Empty Bowls Dinner. “We raised more than $1,100 for the Food Bank for Westchester,” said Briarcliff Middle School teacher Jessica Dubin in a press release. The Empty Bowls Dinner is the brainchild of Dubin.  Students made special ceramic bowls for the dinner, which were displayed in the cafeteria, according to a press release. Mahopac Library Offering Defensive Driving Course MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- Jack Coxen will lead a defensive driving insurance point reduction class from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12 at Mahopac Public Library. The course consists of discussions about driving behaviors and attitudes and a series of films. Although the class is designed for licensed drivers, those with learners permits also may attend.  Upon completion of the class, attendees may get a maximum of four points off their driver's violation record and a 10 percent liability insurance discount to the principal operator.  The class is $45 or $25 for seniors 65 and older. Greenburgh Offers Two Free Self-Defense Seminars GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The town of Greenburgh is offering two self-defense seminars from 1-3 p.m. July 25 and Aug. 1 at Anthony F. Veteran Park. Both seminars are free and open to Greenburgh residents ages 6 and older.
