Fairfield Kids Invited To Compete In Essay-Writing Contest FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University Bookstore will kick off National Children's Book Week with an essay contest for writers in grades 3 to 8 on May 2. Three Westport children's authors will judge the essay contest: Tommy Greenwald, author of the "Charlie Joe Jackson" series; Michaela MacColl, author of the new "Hidden Histories" series; and Christine Pakkala, author of the "Last-But-Not-Least Lola" series. All three authors will also read from their works, discuss their styles of writing and answer questions from visitors. The essay theme is "Springtime in Fairfield County." …

Free Clay Workshops for Port Chester Residents PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Clay Art Center will offer free clay workshops this spring to residents of the Purdy Avenue, Weber Drive and Traverse Avenue housing sites. "We hope this project will celebrate the residents of Port Chester while beautifying the community and using clay as a unifying force," said Clay Art Center Executive Director Leigh Taylor Mickelson. Norwalk Fire Department To Install Smoke Detectors April 11 NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross for the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign.
