Fairfield Kids Invited To Compete In Essay-Writing Contest FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University Bookstore will kick off National Children's Book Week with an essay contest for writers in grades 3 to 8 on May 2.  Three Westport children's authors will judge the essay contest: Tommy Greenwald, author of the "Charlie Joe Jackson" series; Michaela MacColl, author of the new "Hidden Histories" series; and Christine Pakkala, author of the "Last-But-Not-Least Lola" series. Chef Central Sharpens Knives In Hospital Fundraiser WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Chef Central in the Crossroads Center raised $1,205 for the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Foundation at Westchester Medical Center in a knife-sharpening fundraising event March 21.  “We love the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Foundation’s mission and are thrilled to support them with this event," said Kim Teresi, senior buyer and marketing director for Chef Central.  “Events like this throughout the community add up and definitely helps the hospital to meet their fundraising goals," said Karen Ash, manager of annual giving for the hospital.

Norwalk Fire Department To Install Smoke Detectors April 11 NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross for the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign. On April 11, department staff, public safety cadets and Red Cross volunteers will go door-to-door in South Norwalk to install new smoke detectors. ”Smoke detectors are not a luxury but a vital necessity,” said Fire Chief Denis McCarthy.
