Harrison Avenue Students Volunteer To Help Send Medical Supplies Overseas HARRISON, N.Y. -- Fifth-graders at Harrison Avenue Elementary School volunteered their time to the AFYA Foundation, helping to sort donated medical equipment and humanitarian supplies that are sent to countries around the world in desperate need of these basic life-saving materials. The mission of the AFYA Foundation is to collect the surplus of medical supplies in the U.S. that go unused by hospitals and donate them to countries in need. Greenburgh's Community Center Offers Barbershop Training GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Anthony Barton, a professional barber, is giving back to the community by offering a free barber-training program at the Theodore Young Community Center in Greenburgh, as well as free haircuts during the training sessions. As a barbershop owner, Barton knows that good barbers are hard to find, so he started a barber in training program at the Community Center. Girl Scouts Visit Thomas Paine Fair In New Rochelle NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Girl Scout Troop 1863 visited the Thomas Paine Cottage's Colonial Fair fundraiser on Saturday, April 11. "The Thomas Paine Cottage will always hold a special place in our hearts as our girls bridged from Brownies to Juniors here on the beautiful grounds and now they are Cadettes,” said Helynn Boughner and Cristina Cerone, co-leaders of Girl Scout Troop 1863, who sponsored the spinning and weaving station. The women spun wool and weaved a cloth as they explained their use of the “machinery,” colonial times technology, and how it is still in use today.
