Clarkstown Police Explorers Wrap Gifts For Needy Families CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. – Members of the Clarkstown Police Department Explorers program performed some community service Friday night, helping to wrap gifts intended for about 700 needy families bought by local residents. Woman Found Dead In Car On North Broadway In Yonkers ID'd YONKERS, N.Y. – Yonkers police have identified a 27-year-old woman who was found dead in her car on North Broadway on Saturday. Tina Campbell was found dead in the back of her Jeep outside of a florist shop on North Broadway, according to News 12. The Westchester Medical Examiner's Office said the death doesn't appear suspicious, but an autopsy has yet to be performed, reported News 12. New City Fire Department Elects Officers NEW CITY, N.Y. – The New City Fire Department held its annual election of officers on Wednesday night. All officers will serve two-year terms. That includes new chief Dennis Rodriguez, who replaces James Avaras. The officers are: First assistant chief, Timothy Kunz; second assistant chief, John Latanzio; captain, Richard Willows Sr.' first lieutenant, John Pawelczyk; second lieutenant, Michael Sansone; chief engineer, Steve Dorfman; and assistant chief engineers, Alan Handsman, Richard Willows Jr., Eric Zweigbaum and Matthew Murphy. Terms will begin in January.

Rockland County Legislature Raises Proposed 2016 Budget ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. – The Rockland County Legislature voted to raise the proposed 2016 budget submitted earlier by a 9-8 vote on Thursday night, according to LoHud.com. The new budget will break the tax cap at a cost of $732 million, which the legislature also approved by an 11-6 vote, LoHud reported. County Executive Ed Day's projected budget was $727 million and was dependent upon breaking the tax cap, reported LoHud.com. Number Of State School Employees With Six-Figure Salaries Soars The number of public school employees making more than six figures increased by 55 percent last year, according to the NY State of Politics blog. Just under 50,000 teachers and administrators make more than $100,000, according to the fiscal think tank Empire Center. Superintendent Joyce Bisso of the Hewlett-Woodmere School District on Long Island was the highest-earning employee with a salary just over $625,000, reported the New York State of Politics blog. Arturo Hernandez, 36, was arrested in South Salem, N.Y. after the Danbury Police Special Victims Unit discovered the alleged abuse as part of an investigation, police said. Ridgefield's Jesse Lee Church Offers Event For Orphans RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Jesse Lee Church in Ridgefield will host an event as part of its ongoing work with Foundation 4 Orphans from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the church's Wesley Hall. The two groups are aiming to build the Dondo Orphanage in Mozambique, which will house 48 orphans. Plans for the event include hors d’oeuvres, a book signing by F4O Executive Director Wayne Lavender, discussion about the needs of orphans and vulnerable children and some carol singing. The event is open to the public and no registration is required.
