Amistad Moored Off Sheffield Island In Norwalk Through Mid-August Amistad Moored Off Sheffield Island In Norwalk Through Mid-August
Amistad Moored Off Sheffield Island In Norwalk Through Mid-August Named for a slave revolt in 1839 (and popularized in a 1997 Steven Spielberg movie), the tall ship Amistad is currently moored off of Sheffield Island in Norwalk.  Each summer this vessel becomes a floating classroom with a crew of eight high school students who remain on the ship for about two weeks along with the captain. In addition to getting a firsthand lesson in American history, the students also come away with many team-building experiences that are learned when sailing this massive ship. Starting July 26 and continuing through Aug. 13, visitors cruising to Sheffield Island will get…

Medical Pedicures – The Only Sanitary Solution for Summer Feet Summer is in full swing and sandals, flip-flops and open-toe shoes are the norm. While regular trips to the nail salon may be a summer splurge for your toes (and a year-round staple!), you might want to consider another option: a medical pedicure. You probably know someone that has a bad pedicure story -- nails cut too short and ingrown, cuticles bleeding, even tetanus shots after metal tool blunders. Dr. Jennifer Tauber, of New Canaan Podiatry, has treated her fair share of salon pedicure mishaps. Chief among them? Ingrown toenails due to their being improperly cut at a salon and infection…

Wall Street Theater Artistic Director Billy Blanks, Jr. Has Learned To Fly Billy Blanks. You’ll recognize the name if you caught any infomercials for Tae-Bo several years back. And while Billy Blanks, Jr. does offer a fitness/dance program at his Greenwich studio, Blanks Studio  (his father, Billy Blanks, Sr., created Tae-Bo), that’s not what brings him to Norwalk and that’s not why you’ll remember his name. The Erie, Pa.-born fitness guru and entertainer who is now a Greenwich resident, moved from the West Coast to accept the position of Artistic Director at Norwalk's Wall Street Theater – and he is on a mission to put the venue on the map. The theater, which wa…

Stamford's Crashcode Believes Progress Starts With A Simple Line of Code Creating a website is not rocket science. And it sure can make you more valuable as an employee.  “There’s a perception that it’s hard,” said Michael McClure, a New Canaan native and founder and managing director of Stamford-based Crashcode, a nonprofit coding bootcamp looking to up the digital literacy quotient of Fairfield County. “When you write your first line of code, it opens up your mind and you think, ‘I can do this.’ People shouldn’t be daunted by it.” McClure certainly wasn’t.
