Pure Barre Greenwich Celebrates Five Years Of Fitness For Community Combining dance with exercise is nothing new (Jazzercize, anyone?), but Pure Barre isn’t about fulfilling your childhood ballerina dreams. While, a ballet barre is used, it’s not about plies – it’s about becoming lean and strong using isometric movements, building cardio strength and focusing on yourself. That’s what drew Ashley Allen to Pure Barre eight years ago while still a college student at Temple University in Philadelphia majoring in kinesiology. The Boston native was looking for a workout for herself that went beyond weight-lifting alone at the local box gym. She spent more than en…

Rosy Brows At European Wax Centers Support Axing Pink Tax Rosy Brows At European Wax Centers Support Axing Pink Tax
Rosy Brows At European Wax Centers Support Axing Pink Tax Pink hair doesn’t really raise eyebrows anymore, but do pink eyebrows? While pink does make a bold statement, pink eyebrows during the month of April signify more than fashion sense. They show support for cutting the so-called Pink Tax. What is the Pink Tax? When a dry cleaner charges more for a women’s pink (or white) oxford shirt than a man’s. When a women’s razor that is identical to its male-marketed counterpart except for color costs more. When tampons are considered a “luxury item” and taxed accordingly in some states. Notice a pattern?  (For the record: New York ceased to tax femin…

April (Snow) Showers Bring May Flowers: Tips for Fairfield County Gardeners Don't let the snow on the ground discourage you. Rest assured, the calendar really does say April and it is time to start thinking about gardens.  Longtime Norwalk resident and avid gardener Laura White is certainly thinking about her own flower garden.  "The snow has delayed starting to clear my garden of old perennial stalks from the fall, but I should begin the maintenance in the first week in April," she said. White admits she didn't know where to start when she decided to turn a small patch in her front yard into a flower garden in 2000. "I've always loved flowers,&quo…

Wilton’s Cadenza Innovation CEO, Founder Making A Difference Many a historical novel set in the 19th century starts this way: A beloved daughter is perceived precocious and spoiled by society because her avant-garde parents encourage her love of learning and expose her to the top intellectual minds of the time.  Ultimately, our brave heroine has to make a choice of whether to pursue her scientific dreams or settle for more traditional feminine pursuits. The traditional pursuits usually win. Fortunately, this is neither the 19th century nor a novel. Cadenza Innovation’s CEO and Founder Christina Lampe-Onnerud was born in Sweden into a scientifically m…

Chocolate Is America's Favorite Easter Gift: What's Yours? If you think painting Easter eggs is the most popular Easter tradition in the United States, you're wrong. According to New York City-based Statista's Easter Survey 2018, giving baskets of candy beats out egg painting with 60 percent of Americans naming it their number one favorite custom. Painting eggs came in third at 55 percent, with egg hunts coming in second with 57 percent picking it as their favorite Easter tradition. Chocolate still rates as the most popular Easter gift, with an expected 75 percent of the U.S. population expected to buy confections made to be bunnies, eggs, and more…

Highland Medical Marks LGBTQ Health Awareness Week With Inclusive Advice With National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week here, there hasn’t been a better time to consider the importance of establishing quality medical care. And what type of doctors do people see most often? If you think about it, the answer is obvious: a primary care physician. Finding the right provider is especially crucial when it comes to this medical generalist. Think of a primary care doctor as the central office of medical care through which all other medical interactions flow, track and are organized. The primary care doctor is the keeper (digitally, these days) of all your past conditions, al…

Norwalk: Turn Eh Into Yeah! By Updating Your Front Door Color Spring is here, we swear! If you’re starting to think of sprucing up your home and property, there’s one relatively simple thing you can do for instant curb appeal: paint your front door. If you’re looking to put your house on the market, the front door is a prospective buyer's introduction to a house. Nancy Manby, a realtor with William Raveis in Norwalk, likens it to opening a package. “It’s the first thing the buyer sees,” said Manby. “It sets the tone for what rest of house is going to be." It's particularly important to take a careful look at your front door if it's not your usua…
