It's The Most Wonderful Time Of Year At Historical Christmas Barn in Wilton WILTON, Conn. – Other shops open up for the season, but The Historical Christmas Barn in Wilton’s Lambert House (the oldest house in the town), is open throughout the whole year.  It may look like an old colonial home from the outside, but when you open the door, you'll find perhaps the most extensive collection of Christmas tree ornaments to be found in Fairfield County. Trumbull residents Jennifer and Gary Bean were looking for an opportunity aside from Allegra Printing and Imaging,  the print shop Gary bought (and still runs) in Shelton.  When one of Jennifer’s favorite shops became ava…

Ready To Party? New Rochelle Event Planner Has You Covered A little over three years ago, Justin Christopher left a position with a New York City-based nonprofit to launch Hand Crafted Services. His New Rochelle company is all about supplying a  personal touch to events, everything from corporate functions to affairs in someone's backyard. “The name Hand Crafted comes from craft services, as on film sets,” said Christopher. “That was the original idea for the company, and we still do craft services for small film sets like commercials." He considers his business  -- a combination caterer, event planner, entertainment purveyor and manager ---a…

His Own Gig: Yonkers Musician Launches Eco-Friendly Guitar Business Like many a teenage boy before him, Henry D’Allacco dreamed of rock stardom.  As a high school student at Saunders High School in Yonkers, D’Allacco, a self-taught bass guitar player, practiced day and night with his band at his childhood home on Grosbeak Road. Always striving for perfection, he began tinkering with his guitars and the band’s other instruments to ensure the best quality sound.  A little over a decade later, D’Allacco’s band-touring days seem to be over, but his tinkering remains. The entrepreneur is now the founder of Grosbeak Guitars, an eco-friendly boutique brand he laun…

Monroe Woman Delivers Dresses To Girls In Need Around The World MONROE, Conn. – Invited to a sewathon a couple of years year ago while visiting her sister in Maine, Monroe resident Liz Skarzynski thought, why not? Together the group of women made over 100 dresses for the Iowa-based Dress A Girl Around The World organization, a nonprofit group that delivers dresses to girls in underprivileged areas.  While she did more cutting than sewing that first time, Skarzynski still had a great experience and decided to replicate the event in Connecticut. Thanks to the help of a local leader — the group calls them "Ambassadors," — the former marketing ass…

Darien Woman Does 'Right' Delivering Wheelchairs To Costa Rica DARIEN, Conn. – Many of us take our mobility for granted. Kim Babcock does not.  Lack of mobility is not a personal hardship, but one she sees every day. Working with the elderly through Right at Home, a Darien-based business that provides services to keep the elderly safely at home, Babcock has seen how lack of independence can devastate an individual. As a Girl Scout leader in Easton for 13 years as well as a school and church volunteer, Babcock has been involved in charity and volunteer work for a long time. Westport Mom Thinks 'Inside The Box' With New Party Business WESTPORT, Conn. – After being invited to three children’s house-bounce birthday parties three weekends in a row, Sarah Rose and her sons were tired of the same-old, same-old.  The recent U.K. transplant to Westport wondered whether there was something different she could offer for her own children’s parties – something that would fall between requiring a full-blown party planner and a quick trip to Party City for various tchotchkes. “I wanted to offer a different kind of party,” said Rose. Within two months, after querying friends and sending out marketing surveys on local Facebook groups, …

It's All In The Details: Brewster Author Publishes Historical Teen Novel BREWSTER, N.Y. – Fans of historical fiction appreciate nothing more than accurate attention to detail. As a fan of the genre herself, Brewster resident Deborah Rafferty Oswald certainly does, and made it her mission to be historically accurate in her first full novel, The Girls of Haviland, published this past August and available at Amazon. Oswald, a fifth grade teacher in North Salem, has been writing her whole life. She started what became The Girls of Haviland back in 1995 as a short story. “I just kept at it,” she said. “I kept researching and writing. I have a profound interest in hi…
