Fairfield County Resident Hopes To Get Back On Her Horse Thanks To LYMBR Fairfield County Resident Hopes To Get Back On Her Horse Thanks To LYMBR
Fairfield County Resident Hopes To Get Back On Her Horse Thanks To Lymbr Lucia will never know for sure what caused her beloved palomino mare Butterscotch to be extra jumpy that day in February 2016. But the Fairfield County resident’s skill wasn’t enough when her horse bucked at the sound of a truck backfiring and Lucia landed on the frozen ground of a trail she rode regularly in Bedford, N.Y. A passerby found Lucia trying to crawl for help and she was taken to the hospital, where she learned that she had not only shattered her pelvis, but had three broken vertebrae and a torn hamstring as well. Seven months post-accident, with approximately the first 16 weeks …
When The Bough Breaks, Consider Calling a Professional When The Bough Breaks, Consider Calling a Professional
When The Bough Breaks, Consider Calling a Professional March is living up to its reputation of coming in like a lion.  The recent trio of storms in Westchester and Fairfield has left more debris in yards then homeowners know what to do with. Sure, lots of it is just picking up and removing branches – some bigger than others. But for the jobs that look like you may need more? Don’t just necessarily borrow your brother-in-law’s best friend’s chainsaw and ladder and go at it. “Unless you are experienced in the use of such equipment and comfortable working off the ground, it would be best to have the work performed by a competent professional,” sai…

New Canaan Moms Lead Push For New Playground At Mead Park When a park’s playground is rusting and sporting patched pieces of equipment or decking, it’s time to replace it. While the Town of New Canaan has put some funding in its budget to replace the aging play structure at Mead Memorial Park, it’s not enough. Long the site of tennis and baseball, Mead Park with its restaurant and playground also provides a place for families and kids of all ages to gather. These include Monica Chimera and Allyson Mahoney, New Canaan moms of young children. “We love Mead Park because of its location,” said Mahoney. “It is close to downtown and the train station.…

Instagram Makes Fairfield County Streetwear Company Half-Evil Oh-So-Good Don’t doubt the power of social media. Like most 21-year-olds, Norwalk’s Sam LeBlanc is more than familiar with Twitter and Instagram. He’s made friends, found business partners, and gained tens of thousands (and growing) of customers through a tweet and a post. While still a senior at Norwalk High School, LeBlanc first tried his hand at a clothing line that ultimately fizzled. But he was not deterred. In 2015 he had his first taste of success with the I Miss You Hat, for which he partnered with two young men from California whom he met through social media. Selling over 4,000 hats worldwide…

Everybody Sleeps: Norwalk Wrestling Team Hosts Mattress Fundraiser Selling chocolates and magazines door-to-door as a school fundraiser is a relic of the past, at least that’s what Job Fernandez, math teacher and head coach of the Norwalk High School wrestling team is counting on. Fernandez and his team are hosting a mattress fundraiser this Sunday, January 28 in the Norwalk High School gym from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “We chose a mattress fundraiser because there is a great deal of potential to raise a significant amount of funds while minimizing the upfront financial responsibility on the team,” said Fernandez. “Furthermore, we will be selling an item that ind…

A Little Craig’s List Luck Leads To New Norwalk Soccer Facility NORWALK, Conn. – When Michael Broncati was a young boy, it took him eight months to save $137 to buy a CD player and CDs so he could listen to his favorite music while kicking the ball around his parents’ basement, pretending to take on soccer defenders. “I used to spend hours and hours in the basement,” said Broncati. “I would practice everything and even use my brother as a goalie.” He still remembers that Nickelback CD and the number of lightbulbs he had to replace in a typical six-month period – 50. Broncati says soccer is in his blood because of his Brazilian background. That may be, …
Get Cozy With Wilton Author’s Island-Set Mystery Get Cozy With Wilton Author’s Island-Set Mystery
Get Cozy With Wilton Author’s Island-Set Mystery WILTON, Conn. – When the air outside freezes your breath, as it often does mid-winter in New England, one option to consider is a good book set in warmer climes to help banish the winter blues.  Jennifer L. Schiff hopes you’ll give her first foray into fiction a chance to do just that. The longtime Wilton resident has been a tech and finance writer for years, but those articles never satisfied the way writing and publishing a novel has. Deciding if not now then when, Schiff gave herself three months to finish a first draft of a novel at the beginning of last summer, and she did it, publish…

ALS Won't Get Him (Or His Mom) Down: New Canaan Singer Writes From Heart NEW CANAAN, Conn. – You might not think of New Canaan in the same breath as Nashville, New York or Los Angeles when it comes to launching musical careers. But it works for singer-songwriter Nick Depuy. Depuy, a New Canaan resident who recently launched his debut album, calls his music “folksy with a few twists" -- think a combination of James Taylor meets Mumford & Sons. His goal, he said, is to tell a meaningful story through his music. “I’ve always written music as a certain therapy for myself,” said the 24-year-old who found his passion for guitar in high school.  “My hope is t…

Trumbull Author Explores Friendship, Abuse & Secrets In New Novel For Kids TRUMBULL, Conn. – By any definition, Tony Abbott of Trumbull made the right decision when he risked leaving his job as a corporate trade publication editor 25 years ago to concentrate on his dream of writing.  And it paid off: Today, he has published 106 books and sold over 12 million copies. Abbott is known for his mystery and fantasy series for children — such as the popular Danger Guys series, The Copernicus Legacy, and The Secrets of Droon fantasy books, to name but a few.  But every now and then, Abbott writes a standalone novel. The Summer of Owen Todd, published this past October, i…
