Several Local Fire Districts In Poughkeepsie Elect Commissioners POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Commissioners were elected in several local fire districts in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.In the Fairview District, two seats were decided. Aldo Milanese defeated incumbent Virginia Buechele in a race for a five-year term. Milanese received 109 votes. Buechele had 85. In an uncontested race, Ron Diaz was elected to a two-year term with 167 votes, the Poughkeepsie Journal said. Authorities Investigate Cause Of Briarcliff Manor Pool Pavilion Fire BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Authorities continue to investigate what caused the fire that destroyed the Briarcliff Manor pool pavilion on Saturday night, according to an article on lohud.com.The fire started at around 9 p.m. Saturday, engulfing the two-story structure on Pleasantville Road near the pool. Briarcliff firefighters knocked down the fire after several hours, lohud.com said. The pavilion -- with a pool, tennis courts, ice skating rink, and other amenities -- is considered the hub of the village. Carrie E. Tompkins Second-Graders Choose Their Own Roles In Concert CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School second-grade students in Croton were empowered to take charge of their concert this year by selecting their own roles – ranging from performer to set designer and narrator – and showed off the finished project. Santa, Mrs. Claus Give Out Candy Canes In Shrub Oak Neighborhood, SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- Courtesy of the Lake Mohegan Fire Department, Santa and Mrs. Claus paid a candy cane visit to Ivy Road/Arch Drive in Shrub Oak today. The neighborhood kids were delighted. Everyone is grateful to the Fire Department for this holiday tradition, but even more importantly thankful for the service they provide in times of emergencies. 2 New Westport Firefighters Graduate From Recruit Program WESTPORT, Conn. -- Two new members of the Westport Fire Department were among the 51 candidates who graduated from the Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit Program.The graduation took place Friday, Dec. 11, at Welte Hall on the campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. Bethel Resident Roxanne Doyon Becomes Mrs. Connecticut BETHEL, Conn. -- Bethel resident Roxanne Doyon was recently named Mrs. Connecticut and will compete for the title of Mrs. International next summer, according to The News-Times.Doyon, 45, co-owns Connecticut Martial Arts in Danbury with her husband. She is a fifth-degree black belt in taekwondo, The News-Times said. The mother of two grew up in New Jersey, where she won the title of Mrs. New Jersey in 2005. Donate To Toys For Tots At Little Tor School NEW CITY, N.Y. -- The Little Tor Elementary Student Council in New City promoted the Toys for Tots drive this holiday season by organizing Pajama Day for students. The school has filled 15 boxes of toys for this cause. As a reminder, Toys for Tots collection bins are located in each Clarkstown Central School District building and toys can be dropped off until Friday. The mission of the U. S.
