Costumed Families Enjoy Kent Library Halloween Extravaganza CARMEL, N.Y. -- Approximately 170 people attended the Halloween Extravaganza on the town green in Kent.  The idea for the extravaganza came from Supervisor Maureen Fleming.  Kent Public Library provided crafts and a storyteller, and refreshments were provided by the Carmel-Kent Chamber of Commerce. Ukes on the Lake performed a set of seasonal songs for the costumed attendees.

Yorktown Man Charged With Violating Order Of Protection YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- A Yorktown man has been charged with criminal contempt in the second degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.  According to Yorktown Police Department, Marc C. McDermott, 57, allegedly broke a phone and harassed a female resident of Old Yorktown Road in violation of a temporary order of protection. Police were reportedly dispatched to the scene following a call about a domestic dispute in progress. McDermott was released on recognizance to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Dec. 3.

Crowds Turn Out For Annual Eastchester Rag-a-muffin Parade EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- The 2015 Rag-A-Muffin Parade experienced a large turnout of children and parents Oct. 25.  The successful parade went from Eastchester Middle School to Town Hall, which hosted a DJ Dance Party. Participants received goodie bags from sponsors, such as the Eastchester Tuckahoe Chamber of Commerce. New Chamber of Commerce member Koala Park Daycare provided goodie bags and employees to distribute giveaways to the children.

Just one steak a week may increase the chance of bowel cancer by 42 percent.  According to Daily Mail, scientists at Oxford determined that four portions of red meat increases the likelihood of developing bowel cancer by more than two-fifths. Four portions of red meat is less than a standard 10 ounce steak. Roosevelt State Park Nov. 1.  The 5K raised money to pay for the pending wishes of Hudson Valley children battling serious illnesses.

Valhalla Celebrates Halloween VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Thanks in part to pleasant weather, Halloween was more of a treat than a trick for Valhalla this year.  The Kensico School's gymnasium was overflowing with costumed celebrators at a recent Halloween party.  Families roasted pumpkin seeds, carved jack o'lanterns and finished their lawn decorations.  Children took to the streets Halloween night in search of the best treats.
