YWCA White Plains Offers Learn-to-Swim Class For Seniors
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester is offering a learn-to-swim class designed specifically for senior citizens. The beginner class is intended to help seniors keep active, stay healthy and overcome fears of water in a supportive environment led by American Red Cross-certified aquatics instructors. WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Yonkers resident Richard Paullin will sign copies of his latest book "The Idolatry of Idiots" at Hastings Tea and Coffee on Saturday. Paullin's novel follows four generations of a family bent on destroying America and satirizes the "they" that lead and shape the world. Taconic Opera Combines Tragedy, Comedy In Season Opener
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Taconic Opera will open its 18th season with a tragi-comedy double bill in October. The company will first present Ruggero Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci." One of the most famous operas, "Pagliacci" tells the tale of a love triangle among street circus clowns that ends in horrific tragedy. "Like Sunday, Like Rain" stars Leighton Meester, Debra Messing and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and follows the friendship between a wealthy cello prodigy and a live-in babysitter. YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Hilltop Hanover Farm will host a benefit tapas dinner for former farm manager Brett Alcaro on Oct. 3. Alcaro has bile duct and liver cancer.
