Putnam Among 31 NY Counties Where Some Fireworks Are Legal
PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- While the majority of fireworks are still illegal in the state of New York, a new law permits sparkling devices for use in Putnam and 30 other counties. According to New York State Penal Law, sparkling devices are permitted for use by individuals aged 18 and over. Sparking devices are ones that produce a colored flame or shower of colored sparks, whistling noise or audible crackling and smoke. The devices must be hand held or mounted on a spike or base and can only contain 1 to 500 grams of pyrotechnic composition. For additional information on sparkling devices …

To Sleepover
SOMERS, N.Y. -- Somers Library will hold a pajama story time and stuffed-animal sleepover on Monday. Every participating child should bring a stuffed animal to the library's Children's Room at 7 p.m. for story time. After stories, the animals will stay at the library overnight. The next morning, children will return to pick up their animals and watch a video of what the animals were doing during their sleepover. Orleans Opens Concert Season At Westport's Levitt Pavilion
WESTPORT, Conn. -- Pop-rock band Orleans opened the 42nd summer season June 28 at the Levitt Pavilion's new facility alongside the Saugatuck River. Despite intermittent rain, a full crowd turned out to see the band known for hits like "Dance with Me," "Still the One" and "Love Takes Time." Before the performance, there was a dedication ceremony for the Epstein stage, a gift by David and Geri Epstein. The Levitt Pavilion provides more than 50 nights of free concerts and performances during the summer season.
