Red Cross Offers Donation Opportunities Throughout Westchester County
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The American Red Cross encourages eligible blood donors to make a difference in the lives of patients this spring by giving blood. Donated blood is perishable and must be constantly replenished to keep up with the demand. Red blood cells, with a shelf life of only 42 days, are the most frequently transfused blood component, and are always needed by hospitals. Leaf Removal Program Yields Cleaner Streets, Storm Drains In New Rochelle
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Because of the overwhelming participation in the city's new leaf collection policy, the Public Works crews were able to complete citywide leaf collection by the end of December. The absence of leaf piles made for cleaner streets and storm drains. This coming summer and fall, the city will continue the “Love Em and Leave Em” mulch mowing program with local demonstrations.
