Briarcliff Pool Opening Tops Village Manager's Report
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- The following is the Village Manager’s Report from Philip E. Zegarelli: The Village of Briarcliff Manor's pool is now open. Weekend hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., while weekday hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Permits may be purchased at the Recreation office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office will stay open late until 6 p.m. on Monday, June 20. Permits are required for tennis players for play on all Village courts. The Village Hall's summer hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. STAMFORD, Conn. -- U.S. Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, Rep. Jim Himes and Stamford Mayor David Martin will host a public meeting about the Orlando shooting on Saturday, June 18. Major Water Main Project Begins On Noroton Avenue In Darien
DARIEN, Conn. -- Aquarion Water Co. will work on water main replacement projects on Noroton Avenue, Middlesex Road and Mansfield Avenue in Darien this summer, with work starting on Monday. The work on Noroton Avenue from Chestnut Street to Middlesex Road will begin Monday, June 20, and is expected to be completed in four weeks. It will replace 1,000 feet of water main with 16-inch ductile iron main. The project is an improvement plan to create a new "backbone" of water distribution for Darien. Marist College Is Most Photographed Location In Region
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Marist College was the most-Instagrammed location in Poughkeepsie, according to a study by Kingston Creative. The study analyzed more than 34,000 pictures geotagged within the city and town the past 12 months, and nearly 3,000 photos were of the college. Vassar College, the Walkway Over the Hudson and the Chance Theater were the next most popular locations, the study said. Westport Library Celebrates Summer Solstice With Yoga, Free Custard
WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Library's Summer Solstice Festival will feature a drum circle, yoga, free custard and more Sunday. Crompond Fifth-Graders Make Books For Haitian Children
CROMPOND, N.Y. -- Fifth graders from Crompond School recently created books to donate to orphaned children in Haiti. Retired Yorktown teacher Lois Burke of Peekskill initiated the project and donated books to coordinate with an upcoming church-mission trip to Haiti. Burke's idea was “to provide materials suitable for young children and to show the children in this Haitian orphanage that the world cares about them." “What you all have done is the best. IRVINGTON, N.Y. - Three Irvington High School sophomores recently won prizes for their research projects at the 2016 Westlake Science Fair. “We are so proud of our students’ accomplishments and especially their dedication to the Science Research Program,” said Nadia Parikka, who co-advises the Science Research Program with Geraldine Winterroth.
