It's Mating Season, So Watch Out For Deer On The Roads BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. -- The state Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds motorists to be alert for white-tailed deer with the arrival of the fall breeding season, a time of year when deer may unexpectedly dart onto roads and cause accidents. Motorists are urged to be especially attentive during morning and evening commutes when visibility may be poor. Deer are involved in thousands of collisions in New Jersey every year, with as many as half coming during the fall mating season, known as the rutting season. The department issued an alert advising residents not to provide money or information to unfamiliar callers. Reports recently have been reported of phony IRS representatives calling residents to collect back taxes, a probable scam, the alert stated. Joseph J. Norton, 80, Of Ringwood RINGWOOD, N.J. -- Joseph J. Norton, 80, died at his home in Ringwood Sunday, Oct. 18. He formerly was of the Bronx, N.Y. where he was a New York City fireman for 32 years, and retired in 1991 from 95 Truck Ladder 36 in the Bronx. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Norton and his daughters Eileen Norton-Russo of West Milford and Mary Norton-Gibson of Mechanicsville, Md. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph A. Norton and his daughter Patricia Skinker. He also is survived by four grandchildren: Robert Russo of West Milford; Brenden Norton, Ryan Norton, and Lauren Norton of Phoenix, Ariz. …
