Insanity defense looming for Ho-Ho-Kus man in mom’s murder
HO-HO-KUS, N.J. -- A local man charged with stabbing and beating his mother to death in her home last fall will most likely plead insanity or incompetence, a prosecutor said this morning. An attorney for Nicholas Piotti, 25, is having him evaluated "with an eye to a defense of either mental incompetence or insanity,” Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Danielle Grootenboer told a judge in Hackensack. Bilingual Volunteers Needed For Hackensack Free Clinic
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Volunteers are needed to work as interpreters in the Hackensack office of Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative. Spanish-speaking interpreters are needed for the nonprofit center, whose clients are medically underserved and uninsured. Volunteers will work in shifts from 2 - 4 hours Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Some familiarity with medical terms is helpful. Teaneck Developer Seeks OK For 248 Apartments
TEANECK, N.J. — Amendment of Teaneck’s Master Plan may pave the way for a 248-unit apartment complex at 1775 Windsor Rd., currently occupied by a catering hall and butterfly museum, NorthJersey.com reported. The Planning Board has directed planner Richard Preiss to make the change, which will have to be voted on by the Mayor and Council to take effect. Four Ridgewood Juveniles Caught Drinking
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- A village police detective working a plain clothes detail took four juveniles into custody after catching them drinking alcohol.Detective Douglas Hensky brought the teens to police headquarters, where they were released to their parents pending a hearing in the Family Division of Superior Court in Hackensack, after finding them on North Maple Avenue on July 29.

Arrest In Ridgewood False Alarms
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Village police arrested a Paterson man on charges of sounding false alarms. Nycheem P. Gatling, 20, was found in the area where two false fire alarms were set off in a short period of time on July 30, village police said..
