FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- There is a greater than 90 percent chance that a strong El Nino will take hold of the Northern Hemisphere in the late fall and winter, according to a new forecast released Thursday by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. Further, the NOAA reports an 85 percent chance it will last into early spring. Some forecasters have said the El Niño could produce the worst storms parts of the West Coast have seen in decades. Upcoming Darien Senior Programs At The Mather Center
DARIEN, Conn. -- Nobu will teach an acrylic class on Mondays at the Darien Senior Program at Mather Center beginning Sept. 14. A Darien resident since 2003, Nobu has painted scenes of Darien, New Canaan and the countryside. She has designed the cover of the Darien Parks and Recreation Department brochure since 2008. Each class is $4. Participants should come with canvas, paints and brushes. The Darien Senior Program will be closed from Aug. 17 to 24.
