Lucia Koontz, 60, Of Bergenfield
BERGENFIELD, N.J. — Lucia "Lucy" (nee DeMonico) Koontz, of Bergenfield, died Sept. 18. She was 60.
She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. to Charlie and Rose DeMonico,
Koontz is survived by her parents, husband David, daughter Melissa, sister Annette and brother-in-law Alfred; her aunts, cousins, and in-laws.
Cremation services were private.

Helen M. Beratz, 91, Of Bergenfield
BERGENFIELD, N.J. — Helen M. Beratz, of Bergenfield, died Sept. 22. She was 91.
She was born in Union City to Eleanor and Alfred Beratz, working as a secretary for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City.
Beratz was predeceased by her parents, and cousins William, John and Robert Beiga, and is survived by many friends.
Visiting hours are from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Riewerts Memorial Home, located at 187 S. Washington Ave., Bergenfield.
A funeral Mass will follow 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Bergenfield.

Ralph Mendillo, 93, Of Midland Park
MIDLAND PARK, N.J. — Ralph Mendillo, of Midland Park, died Thursday, Sept. 17. He was 93.
He was predeceased by his wife Eileen and son Robert.
Mendillo is survived by his daughter Nancy, son Ralph, and granddaughter Rebecca.

Kevin P. Kennelly, 45, Formerly Of Ridgewood
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Kevin P. Kennelly, of Asheville, N.C., and formerly of Ridgewood, died Sept. 15. He was 45.
Kennelly was born in Baltimore and was raised in Ridgewood, graduating from Ridgewood High School before moving to North Carolina and owning Bella Hardware in Asheville.
He was predeceased by his father John.
He is survived by his mother Suzanne (nee Luchini), two brothers, Sean, Paul and his wife Linda of Oak Ridge, niece Katherine Kennelly and two nephews Daniel and Jeffrey Barrecchia.
He was interred at Valleau Cemetery in Ridgewood.

Marita Hickey, 76, Of New Canaan
NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Marita Lee Hickey, a resident of Vero Beach, Fla. and New Canaan, died on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She was 76.
Hickey was born in New York City on Dec. 14, 1938 to Chester and Marie (Schneider) Meisel.
She is survived by her husband Thomas; four daughters, Brianne Yontz and her husband Mark of Richmond Hill, Ga., Christine Hickey and her husband Timothy Grosskopf of Darien, Kelly Crawford and her husband Scott of Stowe, Vt., and Kathy Rudden of Norwalk, and nine grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents.

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — Elizabeth A. (nee Kocsis) Tristani, of Fair Lawn, died Tuesday, Sept. 8. She was 86.
Tristani was born in Akron, Ohio, and resided in Fair Lawn for more than 60 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Antoine, and is survived by five children, Maureen Sulish, Gail MacCartney, Kathleen Pirozzi, Antoine Tristani and Janet Pirino, four grandchildren, Billy MacCartney, Nicole Pirino, Ryan Pirozzi and Anthony Pirino, and one great-grandchild, Victoria Acevedo.

Turf Options Divide Washington Township Residents
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Washington Township Council has introduced an ordinance to cover the cost of replacing Memorial Field's natural grass with artificial turf, NorthJersey.com reports.
The cost would be $2.45 million in bonds for improvements to the field and surrounding area. Residents are concerned that the money should be diverted to more pressing needs, the report said.
