Hartsdale Hmart Fined $30,000 By

HARTSDALE, N.Y. – The Hmart in Hartsdale is facing $30,000 in fines for alleged workplace safety violations, reports LoHud.com. The store was visited by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors last month after complaints were filed in May, the story said. The fines were for a variety of alleged issues, including hand protection, exits and sanitary problems, according to LoHud.com. Services For Westchester Student Hit, Killed By Car Scheduled
YONKERS, N.Y. – A Yonkers student killed in Long Island will be laid to rest Monday morning, according to LoHud.com. Eyyad Almargi, 24, was killed Thursday night trying to cross Melville Road in Suffolk County Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Virgin Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 236 Grandview Blvd., Yonkers with burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, reported LoHud.com. Almargi was attending Farmingdale State College. Putnam Hospital Hosts Seminar On Orthopedic Advancements
CARMEL, N.Y. – The Putnam Hospital Center will host a seminar on the latest orthopedic advancements Saturday, Sept. 26 at the hospital's Michael T. Weber Community Auditorium. The seminar will cover the use of a new robotic surgical system for orthopedic surgery being used at Putnam Hospital Center known as the RIO system. The system is a surgeon-controlled robotic arm that's used for the MAKOplasty partial knee procedure and hip replacements. Volkswagen Is Ordered To Recall 500K Cars For Emissions Test Trick
Volkswagen has been ordered to recall almost 500,000 vehicles after the Environmental Protection Agency determined the car manufacturer violated EPA standards by using software to circumvent emission levels. The affected vehicles are four-cylinder Volkswagen and Audi vehicles made between the model years 2009 and 2015. The software worked when undergoing official testing, yet shut itself off when on the road, according to the New York Times. This caused heavier than reported amounts of pollution. Westchester's Kate Snow Named NBC Nightly News' Sunday Anchor
LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Larchmont resident Kate Snow was named the new Sunday night anchor for NBC's Nightly News broadcast, beginning on Oct. 4. She has been at NBC since 2010, having previously worked at ABC for “Good Morning America.” Snow recently was named the weekday anchor at MSNBC as well. Her experience ranges from covering five presidential elections to being a fill-in anchor for both Nightly News and Today since her arrival at NBC. Snow recently completed a series of reports on transgender children and an Emmy-nominated series on America’s heroin epidemic.

Passaic County Nonprofit Loses Tax-Exempt Status
PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. – A non-profit set up by Passaic County has lost its tax-exempt status after failing to report its income to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for three years, NorthJersey.com reported. The Friends of the Passaic County Parks was set up by the county to collect grants intended to improve county parks. According to county records, the group collected more than $68,000 in grant money from 2013 to 2015, NorthJersey.com noted. Lane Closures Planned For I-684
HARRISON, N.Y. – Drivers in and around Harrison should be aware that the right and center lanes of I-684 north are going to be closed for a stretch starting next week for construction. From Tuesday, Sept. 22, to Friday, Sept. 25, the stretch of 1-684 north from the Hutchinson River Parkway to Exit 1, the I-287 entrance ramp, will be closed for maintenance if weather permits.
