Sinai Schools Will Have Scholarship Fundraiser
TEANECK, N.J. -- Sinai Schools will host its 2016 annual benefit dinner Feb. 28 at the Marriott Glenpointe Hotel. The money raised at the dinner will enable Sinai to provide special education to children regardless of their financial background. Sinai offers individualized programs designed to meet a child's specific needs with a 1:2 staff-to-student ratio. The school also features intensive therapeutic supports within the classrooms. ALLENDALE, N.J. -- Bird watchers will flock together for a hike along Celery Farm's loop trail Jan. 16. Experts from the L.L. Bean Paramus Park Mall store will lead the easy bird-watching hike on a trail that features multiple observation towers. Participants should wear appropriate hiking clothes and waterproof footwear. Ossining Moms Meet Up
OSSINING, N.Y. -- Members of the Ossining Moms Facebook group came together for some in-person face time at the Boathouse on Dec. 29. "It is a labor of love" said Barb Foshay, one of the admins. Admins Kim Santos, Miriam Risko and Meredith Bruckman also attended the event. Some of the members were already friends and others were meeting for the first time, but they were all mothers that live in Ossining. Homeless Should Be In Shelters When Temperatures Plunge, Cuomo Orders
Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order Monday to provide shelter to homeless individuals when the temperature drops below freezing. According to the order, homeless individuals are to be directed to shelter when the temperatures drop to 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. Freezing temperatures can lead to hypothermia, frostbite and other serious injuries and death. The order ensures assistance from the state to local services districts if they are lacking resources, facilities or expertise to facilitate the transfer of homeless individuals to sheltered locations. Most Americans Stay True To New Year's Resolutions, Poll Reveals
When you make a New Year's resolution, do you keep it? According to a poll by Marist College, 64 percent of Americans stayed true to their word, or at least partially. The poll also revealed just 39 percent of Americans are likely to make a resolution for 2016, a decrease from 44 percent last year. Twelve percent of Americans making a New Year's resolution are committed to weight loss, while getting a better job is close behind at 10 percent. Dutchess School Districts Rank Among State's Best
Two Dutchess County school districts are among the 100 best in New York, according to the education website Niche. New Stratford Town Council Schedules Workshops On Budget Gap
STRATFORD, Conn. -- Discussions on resolving the $5.1 million budget gap will begin when the new Town Council holds two budget workshops this week, the Stratford Star reports. The first workshop will take place on Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 213 of Town Hall. A public forum will precede the meeting at 4 p.m., according to the Stratford Star. EASTON, Conn. -- The Fox program "Superhuman" will feature the crossword puzzle abilities of Easton native Zoe Wheeler on Monday, according to a report in the Easton Courier. Wheeler's puzzle-filled childhood and encouragement from her mother, children's author Elise Broach, led to her becoming the youngest female crossword constructor for The New York Times, according to the Courier.
