RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Rutherford resident Arline M. Furrer died Thursday, April 28. She was 78.
Born in Jersey City to Joseph McNally and Ellen (Phelan), Furrer was a secretary employed with the FBI in New York City, where she met her husband, Joseph E. Furrer, who predeceased her.
She was active with St Mary’s Parish and Rutherford youth Sports. She also worked for Panasonic and Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Kenneth C. Babcock, 83, Pearl River Resident
PEARL RIVER, N.Y. — Pearl River resident and lifelong Rockland County resident Kenneth C. Babcock died Thursday, April 28. He was 83.
Babcock worked as a lithographer for Dexter Press in West Nyack, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-54.
He is survived by wife, Joan M. Babcock; children, Edward and wife, Cindy, Teresa and husband, Dave Warner, Richard Babcock, and Nancy and Dave Way; grandchildren Stephen, Elizabeth, Christine, Daniel, Jeffrey, Dylan, Rory and Ross; and great-grandchildren Matt, Trevor, Everett, Miller, Madelyn and Ella.

Thelma Brinson, 76, Former Hackensack Resident
HACKENSACK, N.J. — Former Hackensack resident Thelma Brinson died Saturday, April 23 in Sunbury, N.C. She was 76.
She was born Sept. 23, 1940, to Ida Beamon and William Beamon, one of four children.
Brinson married her husband, Lewis M. Brinson, after moving to Hackensack.
She worked for the New York City Telephone Company and enjoyed playing bingo, cooking, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Robert W. Smith, 88, Dumont Resident
DUMONT, N.J. — Dumont resident Robert W. Smith died Wednesday, April 27. He was 88.Smith, a Pennsylvania native, was a World War II veteran and worked as a manufacturer of truck bodies at Mason, Kris, Lang Industries, in Englewood, N.J. He also worked for the Edgewater Post Office.
Smith is survived by his wife Ruth L. (Reichwald); their children Robert and wife Donna, Craig, Jeffrey and wife Karen; grandchildren Phillip, Tanya, Jason, Jennifer; three great-grandchildren; and his sister Maryann Lavin and husband Jack.

Carver Center Makes Fundraising Push For Port Chester Schools
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. — The annual Appeal Campaign for Carver Center, 400 Westchester Ave., Port Chester, is back, with fundraising co-chairs Stephanie Barrett of Greenwich, Conn., and Tom Murphy of Rye trying to raise $300,000 by June 30.
The Carver Center recently created a new after-school program at Port Chester's five elementary schools, and Barrett, a public school teacher, said those are the types of programs the Carver Center is attempting to ensure will have sufficient funding.

Nora M. Horan (Lane), 93, Nanuet Resident
NANUET, N.Y. — Nanuet resident Nora Mary Horan (Lane) died on Wednesday, April 27. She was 93.
Horan had worked for New York University in New York City.
She is survived by her children, Timothy (Ted) and his wife, Jeannine, Edmond and his wife, Eileen and daughter Ann Marie Gray and her husband, Chris; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ned Horan and her five siblings.
