Author Thomm Quackenbush Visits Red Hook Library RED HOOK, N.Y. – Author Thomm Quackenbush visited the Red Hook Library's Enchanted Cafe on Thursday to chat about the local myths and legends throughout the area. Quackenbush covered myths like the Legend of Leatherman, a vagrant who reportedly wandered in a 360-mile route every 30 days in a suit of shoe leather, and the area's UFO issues of the 1980s. Even Bigfoot made an appearance. Quackenbush has published four books and is also an editor and columnist.

New York Trying To Lure GE From Fairfield To Manhattan FAIRFIELD, Conn. – New York state officials are reportedly making a hard push to have General Electric return to New York City and leave its Fairfield offices, according to Politico.com. Officials have laid out locations throughout the five boroughs where GE can set up office space. The move has been a possibility ever since the Connecticut state budget passed in June, including changes to the corporate tax structure, reported Politico. Fraud Screening Saves Rockland County Taxpayers Nearly $630K ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y – Rockland County announced the Department of Social Services has saved nearly $630,000 since January by rejecting fraudulent applications, according to LoHud.com. In total, 89 applications have been rejected since the beginning of the year, the story said. Rockland County Executive Ed Day has made it one of his goals to cut down on fraud, insisting the county's safety net not become "a hammock," reported LoHud.com. Yonkers Building Will Be Torn Down After Five-Alarm Fire YONKERS, N.Y. – A Yonkers building that housed a restaurant and a dollar store and was damaged by a Thursday night fire is in the process of being torn down, according to News 12 Hudson Valley. The five-alarm fire started on South Broadway and firefighters were able to keep it away from St. John's Episcopal Church. Dozens of firefighters were hurt battling the blaze according to officials, reported News 12 Hudson Valley. Demolition work began Saturday and will continue through the week. Csea Endorses Chappaqua's Clinton For President CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – CSEA, the state's largest union of public employees, announced Friday it has endorsed Chappaqua's Hillary Clinton for president, according to the New York State of Politics blog. The union has endorsed Clinton in the past, during her runs for Senate in 2000 and 2006, as well as her run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.
