William McFadden, 86, Of Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. – William "Bill" E. McFadden, of Fairfield, and Nettles Island and Jensen Beach, Fla., died on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at his home in Fairfield. He was 86. McFadden was born in Fairfield in 1928 to Helen and John McFadden, growing up in Bridgeport. He graduated from St. Anne's Elementary School and Bullard Havens Technical School, serving in the Navy after graduation. McFadden worked as an ironworker for 42 years as a member of Local 424 before retirement. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Marlee, son Wayne and sister Shirley McCormack. Bridgeport Schools Change Columbus Day To Indigenous Peoples Day BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Bridgeport School Board voted to rename the Columbus Day holiday to 'Indigenous Peoples Day' unanimously on Tuesday night, reported the Connecticut Post. The holiday will still remain on the second Monday of October on the city school calendar. Board member Kate Rivera suggested the change, so that students could learn 'true history,' according to the Connecticut Post. Yonkers Group Pushes Against Mosque Construction YONKERS, N.Y. – A Yonkers group is fighting against a push to build a mosque at a dilapidated mansion site in Colonial Heights, according to News 12 Westchester. The property on Grandview Boulevard is reportedly falling apart, and a Islamic group purchased the mansion intending to turn it into a mosque. A local group is pushing to have it designated as a landmark, and others say the increased traffic from the mosque would add congestion to the area, reported News 12 Westchester. Hackensack's New Road Salt Plan Has Officials Worried HACKENSACK, N.J. – A new county road salt plan for treating and removing snow has raised concerns from Hackensack officials, according to NorthJersey.com. Plans are to pre-treat the 15 roads within city limits as storms near with a "salt slurry," aimed at eliminating up to 3 1/2 inches of snow as it falls, the story said.
