'Internet Age' At Westport Library With Essayist Sven Birkerts WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Library will host essayist Sven Birkerts for a presentation on his new book “Changing the Subject: Art and Attention in the Internet Age” at 7 p.m. Thursday in the library's McManus Room. Birkerts is best known for his 1994 essay “The Gutenberg Elegies,” where he wrote about trying to resist the siren call of oncoming digital technology and how the advances could affect how we perceive literature and art. Port Chester's Clay Art Center Gala Raises Nearly $100K PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Clay Art Center held its eighth annual fundraiser Oct. 1 at Willow Ridge Country Club in Harrison. Hudson Line Special Weekend Construction Schedule In Effect RIVERTOWNS, N.Y. – Metro-North will continue a special weekend schedule on the Hudson Line until Nov. 15 due to planned construction in the Bronx near Yankee Stadium, affecting riders on Saturdays and Sundays. A major switch needs to be replaced, so a six-mile stretch between Harlem-125th Street through Marble Hill will be down to a single track. Cuomo's Common Core Panel Plans Meeting In NYC WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The governor's office announced the first meeting of the Common Core Task Force panel is planned for next week in New York City, according to Capital New York. The 15 members of the panel will be educators, lawmakers and business leaders, the story said.
