Winter Won't Be 'As Brutal' In White Plains, New Longterm Forecast Reveals Those hoping for a less brutal winter in the area will be pleased with Accuweather's early winter forecast, which has the northeast dealing with less sub-zero days than last winter brought. Granted, nothing is guaranteed, but Accuweather forecaster Paul Pastelok expects fewer days of brutal cold due to a mild beginning to winter. Cautioning expectations with a "we just don't know exactly yet," Pastelok notes that the weather pattern could turn "cold and snowy" in February and March. Byram Hills Wins Homecoming Game Over Beacon ARMONK, N.Y. — The Byram Hills High School football team broke through and won their first game of the year against Beacon during Senior Day last weekend, according to All About Armonk. The 55-43 victory raised the Bobcats' record to 1-4. Byram Hills raced to a 55-20 lead before Beacon closed the scoring with 23 points late to make things interesting, reported All About Armonk. Middle Schooler Breaks Cross Country Record In Armonk ARMONK, N.Y. — Armonk's Jennifer Mui, H.C. Crittenden Middle School seventh grader, set a new record for female middle school runners during an Oct. 1 meet on Byram Hills' cross country course, reported All About Armonk. Mui became the third middle-school female to crack the 10-minute barrier on the 1.5 mile course. Her mark of 9:32.1 was 14.6 seconds better than the previous record, according to All About Armonk. Parker was a veteran of World War II, serving in France, Germany, North Africa, Sicily and the island of Corsica under General Patton and participating in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. He was predeceased by his wife Esther, granddaughter Amy and sister Betty. Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department Under Investigation For Missing Tax Money MAHOPAC, N.Y. — The Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department is being investigated by the state comptroller concerning allegedly missing tax money dating back several years, according to LoHud.com. The investigation is a joint effort between the state comptroller and state police. The amount of missing money could go as high as $5 million, reported LoHud.com. Olivia Vlahos, 91, Of Westport WESTPORT, Conn. — Olivia Vlahos, a longtime resident of Westport, died Aug. 26 at her home. She was 91. Vlahos was born Jan. 8, 1924, working as a young actress for Interstate Players in Texas and for the USO. While with the USO, she attended the University of Texas-Houston, and went on to earn a master's degree in anthropology at Sarah Lawrence College. Vlahos became a professor of anthropology and sociology at Norwalk Community College, helping to create a certificate program in archaeology.
