Somers Library Presents History Of Edwardian Fashion SOMERS, N.Y. — The Somers Library will host an event celebrating the Edwardian era on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 2 to 3 p.m. “The History Of Edwardian Fashion” will feature Denise Vanaria and focus on the era's proper wardrobe and etiquette for men and women alike. Elements like corset training, calling cards, the language of the fan, courtship and various ensembles for certain appointments will all be discussed. Andrew Cuomo brushed aside questions stemming from a reported federal probe, saying he's satisfied with how state contracts have been executed, according to Capital New York. The apparent probe focuses on contacts given to SUNY Polytechnic Institute towards the building of a solar panel factory in South Buffalo. Benedetto Guarino, 95, Of Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. — Benedetto "Ben" Guarino, of Norwalk, died in his home on Monday, Sept. 28. He was 95. He was born in North Bergen, N.J., on Feb. 27, 1920, to Frank and Frances DiSalvo Guarino. Guarino served in the Army during the Korean War and World War II, moving to Norwalk after his service with his family. He served 20 years as general manager for the B. Lipnick Supply Corp. of Bridgeport, and became an active member of local organizations in Norwalk after retiring. Anthony W. Hunter, 97, Of Bronxville BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — Anthony William Hunter, of Bronxville, died on Tuesday, Sept. 29. He was 97. Hunter was born on March 5, 1918 to William and Antoinette Cacciatore in Yonkers, owning Parkway Liquors in Bronxville from 1945 to 2008. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Muffy, brother William and grandson Bruce. Hunter is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Toni and Joe Gamils, son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Brenda Hunter, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 'Putnam Communities That Care' Supports Family Day PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. — National Family Day is traditionally the fourth Monday in September, and while the date has passed, Putnam County's Communities That Care chapter has examples that local families can use to strengthen their bond. Family Day was launched in 2001 by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse to promote parental engagement as a way to limit substance use. Man Charged With DWI After Route 6 Stop CORTLANDT, N.Y. — A Mahopac man was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Saturday while on Route 6 in Cortlandt. Salomon O. Aguirre, 40, was charged with a misdemeanor after state police noticed his vehicle was moving erratically. He provided a breath sample with a blood alcohol level of 0.14, and was issued traffic tickets to appear in Cortlandt Town Court on Oct. 9.
