Cortlandt Middle School Students Kick Off Year of "I Am" CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Students at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School kicked off the year's motto of “I Am” with a school assembly Sept. 4. The motto was chosen to help students consider who they are and who they wish to be in the future. “The purpose of this assembly is not only to get pumped for the school year, but to get pumped for each other,” said Assistant Principal Michael Plotkin to the crowd. Yorktown Man Charged With Allegedly Stealing From BJ's YORKTOWN, N.Y. – A Yorktown man was arrested and charged on Thursday after allegedly stealing over $200 of merchandise from the local BJ's Wholesale Club on Aug. 29. 26-year old Colin Rice attempted to leave the store, but was stopped by employees, dropping the items as he left. He was appearing in court on for an unrelated incident, was recognized and arrested in the Justice Court parking lot. Rice was remanded to Westchester County Jail on $10,000 bail, and was scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Oct. 1.

Developer Peter Stolaris of Plateau Associates LLC filed a complaint last month claiming that former Ossining Mayor Miguel Hernandez defamed him in a Facebook post. Humpback Whale Spotted Off Long Island Sound MAMARONECK, N.Y. – A humpback whale was sighted off of Long Island Sound near Mamaroneck and Larchmont last Saturday while jumping out of the water, according to lohud.com. A group of onlookers at the American Yacht Club saw the whale, estimated at over 20 feet long, breach the water, the report said.
